can't board submarine on iceberg??

Hi, this is my first post, so apologies if wrong place. I have just bough H&D2 and am playing in lone wolf mode, have completed first 3 parts of 1st mission(Norway) and have cleared iceberg of all enemies, found documents & radio, but once i get to submarine I can't climb ladders to get into sub. Only way I can get up 1st small ladder is by "using" the deck mounted gun, then leaving it, but still can't get up 2nd set of steps - is this a bug, or am i approaching this in the wrong way - help pease!
