Game won't start

Hi folks
I installed Hidden & Dangerous 2 (+SS) yesterday because I remembered playing it in the past and ...yeah, I wanted to play it again.
Sadly it won't start up (The log file says my DirectX version is below 8.1 - I actually have DirectX 11 installed). I have no clue what to do in order to get it working. I tried to install some DirectX stuff, didn't help...
Has anyone experienced something like that? Any idea how to fix it?
I'm running Windows 8.1 64bit.
