These forums - I don't like them myself what about you?

Unread post by Jason » Sun Feb 10, 2008 11:29 am

As the title says... I don't like these forums, the software behind them is a turd and I would really like to develop my own  but it would not have as many features as this forum software SMF or phpBB. Do you guys have any preference? I'm in the process of developing a CMS / new website system and I think it would be much better to have our own forums, this way I could integrate features and new functionality easier. Let me know your thoughts grin01

Well, for me the important thing is to have skins, I hate ugly coloring. Right now I'm using a brown\tan skin and it is very neutral for me so thats good.

The forum also loads pretty quickly, all the pages and such. I know on other forums that have all these pictures everywhere and links all over the sides of the pages they take a few more seconds to completely load up and I hate that.

Does anyone else get dodgy "new" topics show up? Sometimes I have a "new" mark next to topics which are really old yet I have not seen before.

Spam Board is nice. http://www.spamboard.net/

But then, I'm sure you can do better if you can cook up your own customized forum.

I just got the "dodgy "new" topics"... This whole section is filled with them. Almost every topic in here.

Yeah I get the occasional dodgy new topic when it's really not. Not sure what it would be other than bad programming on behalf of Simple Machines.
